Paul Corliss, the owner of the Silver Fox Club of Wall, has decided to use Father's Day to help women with cancer.
The Silver Fox Club, which sells apparel, accessories and games targeted to what demographers call "leading-edge Baby Boomers," plans to donate all profits from Father's Day sales to A Time for Me, based in Brielle.
Corliss said profits made from May 1 to June 19 — Father's Day — will be donated to the organization. A Time for Me is a nonprofit organization that enables women living in Monmouth and Ocean counties, who have cancer, to enjoy a retreat or a spa treatment.
The Silver Fox Club was opened last year to provide a "unique and stylish brand" for older people who are "active and spirited," said Corliss, 69.
On a more personal note, Corliss said his wife, Pat Corliss, 67, was recently diagnosed with sarcoma, a cancer of connective and supportive tissues.
"I want people to see the brand logo and think about lesser-known cancers," Corliss said. "People who wear the logo simply support cancer research and they represent the true Silver Fox spirit.
"I thought the best place to start carrying out the Silver Fox Club's mission was right in our own community," he said.
So Corliss approached the members of A Time for Me.
"Our only funding is through donations and our volunteers' fund-raising efforts, so this was a most welcome gift," said 44-year-old Pat O'Neill, executive director of the organization.
In 12 years, A Time For Me has provided weekend and day spa retreats for more than 500 women at the Lillegaard Hotel in Ocean Grove, the Deerfield Spa in the Pocono Mountains, the Milagro Spa at the Atlantic Club in Wall, and Salon Kokopelli in Brielle.
"Our aim is to get the women away from their regular routine and nurture them," O'Neill said.
She said the money donated by the Silver Fox Club will be added to the year's operating budget.
"This means more women will have the opportunity to become (beneficiaries) of this program," O'Neill said.
Corliss said he admires and appreciates A Time For Me's grass-roots efforts to help women with cancer.
"It's in keeping with our club's mission to pledge time, energy and resources and to support those confronting the challenges of cancer," he said.
